Why SQOUT exists
I nearly signed a lease for an apartment that would cost more than $30,000 a year without ever seeing it in person. I knew the city. I knew the neighborhood. I'd even lived there before.
But I realized that the biggest challenge wasn't understanding the apartment itself. It was understanding what everyday life might be like there.
Would the community feel welcoming? Would there be opportunities for my son to meet other kids? What is the atmosphere around the property? What does the area feel like during different times of day? Would I still feel good about my decision six months later?
These are important questions, yet they're often difficult to answer with the information available online. Most people make major housing decisions using listing photos, floor plans, and scattered online reviews. While those resources are helpful, they don't always provide a complete picture of day-to-day life.
That's why I built SQOUT. SQOUT helps people understand what it's actually like to live somewhere through real experiences, real observations, and local intelligence from people on the ground.
Renters are our first wedge, but the bigger vision is helping anyone make better decisions about where they belong. Finding a home shouldn't depend on luck, local connections, or whether you know someone nearby. I want to democratize that knowledge for everyone.
Access to local knowledge shouldn't depend on personal connections or knowing someone nearby. Our goal is to make that information more accessible so people can approach important life decisions with greater confidence.
